A room built for staying
Velvet booths, big marble tables and a layout that works as well for eight people as for one person with a book. Half the tables have a ludo or snakes and ladders board printed into the surface, which is the reason most groups end up staying considerably longer than they planned.
There is no alcohol on the premises, which for a lot of groups is the point. It makes the room straightforward for family gatherings, for after-work catch-ups that are not going to turn into a night out, and for anyone who would rather the evening ran on chai and dessert.
We open at nine every morning and the kitchen runs until eleven at night, midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, so both an early group breakfast and a late dessert table are on the cards.
Sharing platters
Two set platters take the ordering decision away from a table that cannot agree. The Family Platter at £49.95 comes with four samosas, four seekh kebabs, two biryanis, two portions of loaded chips, any two fresh parathas and four mocktails. It is the one to order when nobody wants to work through the menu item by item.
The Family Lunch at £29.95 is the lighter option: two jacket potatoes with two toppings, any two paninis, four canned drinks and two cookie doughs. Both are halal, like everything else on the menu.
Birthdays and celebrations
The dessert counter does most of the work here. A box of five donuts is £7.95 and a box of twelve is £14.95, which travels better than a cake and disappears faster. Milkcakes run from £6.95, kunafa is £7.50, and the Matilda cake at £6.95 is the one people order when they want something to arrive at the table warm.
Tell us the date and roughly how many of you there will be and we will do what we can with the tables. Give as much notice as you can manage for a weekend evening.
Catering and Iftar boxes
The kitchen takes catering orders and puts together Iftar boxes during Ramadan. These are made to order rather than picked off a fixed list, so the sensible first step is to tell us how many people, what date and whether you want it weighted towards the street food counter or the dessert counter.
Larger orders need notice. Ring the shop or send the details through the enquiry form on the contact page and the team will come back to you with what is possible.
